Tapas: The Grit Required for Conscious, High-Level Golf

Tapas: The Grit Required for Conscious, High-Level Golf

Why Grit Matters More Than Swing Tips

Every serious golfer eventually faces the same truth:

Real improvement comes from awareness, Presence, and inner discipline—not from quick fixes.

For years, my ego hijacked my practice. I was so afraid of failure that I would check out mentally during my swing. And if you’re not aware…you can’t grow.

Today, something is changing. Not in my mechanics, but in my consciousness.

I’m learning to practice from Presence—not ego.

Tapas: The Inner Fire of a Spiritual Athlete

In Presence Golf: A Sacred Path to Self-Mastery, I teach the Niyamas, the inner disciplines of Raja Yoga.

One of the most important for golfers is Tapas.

Tapas in Golf: What It Really Means

Tapas is the discipline to:

  • stay committed to your process

  • practice with intention and awareness

  • keep going when results are slow

  • be consistent even when you feel alone

  • train your mind and energy—not just mechanics

This is the fire of the Spiritual Athlete.

And if you want to play golf from Presence,Tapas is non-negotiable.

Practicing From Ego Blocks Your Golf Performance

I used to practice from ego:

  • forcing the swing

  • hiding my flaws

  • trying to impress

  • tensing up to “do it right”

  • fearing judgment for a bad shot on the range

All of this collapses awareness.

All of this shuts down the athletic instinct.

Practicing From Presence

Now I practice from:

  • awareness

  • spaciousness

  • inner quiet

  • bodily intuition

  • the deeper intelligence within me

When I allow my swing to unfold in awareness, everything changes:

  • Tempo softens

  • Contact improves

  • Timing becomes natural

  • The body self-corrects

  • God-given athleticism finally shows up

This is Presence Golf.

Believing in Your Path—Even When It Feels Lonely

My mentor asked me a powerful question:

“Do you believe in your work?”

Truthfully?

Some days I do.

Some days I wonder if I’m the only one walking this path.

But today’s practice confirmed what I know:

Presence-based golf works.

Tapas works.

Awareness works.

The change isn’t just in my swing.

It’s in my Self.

I am awakening—one swing at a time.

Your Practice Question for This Week

Where is golf asking YOU to show Tapas?

Where do you need:

  • more discipline?

  • more awareness?

  • more Presence?

  • more inner belief?

  • more devotion to your process?

You already have the grit inside you.

You already have the fire.

You already have the inner wisdom.

Now it’s time to call it forth.

Let’s walk this path of Presence Golf together—

with discipline, devotion, and inner fire.
