Touching the Flow State

Getting Out of My Own Way
It sounds so simple—just get out of my own way.
Don’t think. Don’t try. Don’t prove.
Just be and allow Presence to take over.
Yet most of my life, I’ve been conditioned to do the opposite. Thinking, striving, and proving felt like the only way to
succeed. That was my programming—both in sport and in life.
But on my last round of golf, something profound happened.I touched It. I felt It. The Presence. The flow state. Pure Being.
When Effort Gives Way to Ease
The round started like most others. A little first-tee nervousness. A few pars, a few bogeys. Then something shifted—golf became effortless.
I birdied three holes in a row. Narrowly missed on the next two. Then birdied again. Four birdies in six holes—something I’d never done before.
The secret? I stopped trying and started trusting.
A quiet mantra echoed within me:
“The Spirit who lives in me is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.”
In that awareness, the game played through me. I wasn’t forcing anything. I was simply allowing.
One Conscious Breath
Before the round, I had chosen my Presence Golf Practice:To take one conscious breath before every shot.
Slow inhale through the nose, feeling my lungs fill and my feet ground into the earth. Slow exhale, letting go of all tension. That single breath became my anchor to the present moment—a transition from thinking to pure Being.
It wasn’t perfect. I forgot sometimes. But every time I remembered, I returned to Presence—and that made all the difference.
The Power Within
Afterward, reflection made it clear:My whole life, I’ve been getting in my own way—believing results come from force, control, and effort. Even when I achieved success, it often came with frustration and exhaustion.
But this round showed me something greater: There is a Presence within me—a Power that doesn’t need to be pushed. It simply needs to be trusted.
This is how I want to play golf. This is how I want to live my life.
Not through striving, but through surrender. Not through tension, but through trust. Not through control, but through connection.
That is Presence Golf. That is living from Presence.
A Call to Presence
Where are you getting in your own way? Where are you still trying to control outcomes instead of trusting your inner Power?
What if the doorway to your flow state—and your soul—was as simple as one conscious breath?
Let that breath return you from thought to Presence. From effort to ease. From doing… to Being.
Because when you stop trying to make life happen, life begins to move through you with effortless grace.
Presence Golf Practice Invitation
Before your next round, or even before your next meeting, pause for one conscious breath.
Let it ground you, center you, and open you to the flow.
Notice what happens when you stop trying… and start allowing.
