What's the Point?

Presence Golf. Presence over performance.

“I love the challenge. I love being able to play this game for a living. It is one of the greatest joys of my life. But does it fill the deepest wants and desires of my heart? Absolutely not.”— Scottie Scheffler

Scottie spoke these words just days before winning the 2025 British Open. This is a man who embodies Presence. He plays the game at the highest level, yet knows that his identity runs far deeper than a scorecard or a world ranking.

That’s what defines Presence Golf. It’s not detachment from the game—it’s detachment from needing it to define you. This way of being isn’t just for golfers. It’s for anyone who has ever poured themselves into something only to ask… What’s the point?

I’ve asked myself that question thousands of times. If you’re a deep thinker, you probably have too: There has to be more to life than this…

There’s nothing wrong with loving golf—or any pursuit. But the moment our identity becomes wrapped around it, we suffer. When who we are gets tied to what we do, the joy fades. The striving never ends. And our soul pays the price.

Scottie said it plainly: “It feels like you work your whole life to celebrate winning a tournament for like a few minutes… That kind of euphoric feeling only lasts a few minutes. Then it’s, okay, what’s for dinner? Life goes on… This is not a fulfilling life. It’s fulfilling from a sense of accomplishment, but it’s not fulfilling from the deepest places of your heart.”

So if being the number one player in the world isn’t fulfilling… what is? For Scottie, it’s faith. Family. His soul’s foundation. And that resonates deeply with me.

I’ve never been the top-ranked golfer in the world. But I have been defined by a scorecard. I’ve been the college football player. The guy with the sculpted physique. The one with a beautiful woman on my arm. The six-figure job. The million-dollar beach house. The endurance athlete checking off impossible feats. None of that brought lasting joy. Some of it brought deep pain.

So what is the point?

At this stage of my life, I see it clearly:The point is to know my soul.To live from the depth of my Being. To enjoy the world without being enslaved by it.To live with aliveness and passion—not dependent on anything or anyone. To walk in soul union with Spirit. That is the point.

We’ve all tried to fill the ache with things outside of us. A new win. A new car. A new relationship. A new house. A new “next.” And if we’re honest, the high is short-lived. Then we’re chasing again.

But when we return to the Source within—the indwelling Presence—that’s where fulfillment lives. That is the adventure. That is the real prize. And I speak from experience.

That’s why Presence Golf is more than a game to me. Like Scottie, I love the challenge. But I don’t play to be the best in the world. I play for Self-Realization. To use the game as a path to Self-Mastery, to soul evolution, to inner freedom.

And that, my friend, is the point.
